| Since
we had our last event, our 55
year reunion, another year has flown by, so it’s time to catch
up on some news, good and bad. First,
those who missed our 55 year event missed out on a great experience. We
didn’t go “all out” as we did for the 50th, but it was
special nonetheless. First we saw a bunch of classmates at the picnic at
the fairgrounds, including Wayne Copeland, who left Mariposa after the 8th
grade, so was in the class of ’57 but not in Mariposa; as well as
Charles Noblet, who was with us during Freshman year, but managed to avoid
the camera and wasn’t in the yearbook. In
the evening, Ed and Debbie Davis played host at their beautiful hilltop
property above Midpines, where they are remodeling the home Ed lived in
when his family first came to Mariposa
Photos from the event are on line here and here, as well as the bottom of this page. We
aren’t planning any specific activities for the picnic this year, but
hope to see some of you at the Fairgrounds on June 15. Bad
news came on a regular basis, as a number of our classmates lost their
spouses. In late 2011 Larry, husband of Julie Williamson Clark passed
away, followed in early 2012 by Larry Miller, husband of Win Wiswall
Miller. Judy Sicher-Golder lost her Ted in September 2012, Carolyn, wife
of Casey Franck passed away in December 2012, and Pete, husband of Loretta
Acord Erickson died early in 2013. Also
in September 2011 classmate Gayle Kelly passed away, and in December 2012
we lost James “Tuck” Deshaies, as well as Ebel Thatcher. He was in
our class only through the 7th grade, but those of us who
attended school in Bootjack remember him well. Not
long after our reunion, Lee DeLaMare’s husband Tom was diagnosed with
cancer. He went through a series of treatments, which first showed
promise, but he ultimately lost the battle on April 30. Our
thoughts and prayers go out to the families of these classmates and
friends, who will continue to live in our memory. We
also send best wishes to Bryce Green, who has been having some health
problems with pain in his limbs. The problem has not yet been identified,
but we wish Bryce a quick recovery. Turning to more positive news, we received a note from Beverly Van Gundy Bowman, who will miss the picnic because she and her husband Wes are on an extensive motor home trip, visiting relatives in southern California, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Colorado and Montana. Bev
Baker Williams and her partner Bob will be heading to Sandpoint,
      ID
in August for the marriage of her oldest granddaughter. Dick
Estel is having fun spoiling his first great grandchild, Colton James
Upshaw, born in December. Spoiling duties are shared by daughter Teri and
her husband Tim, who are enjoying their first grandchild. The proud
parents are their son Johnny and wife Brittany.
